Spring into action with Race Ready!

Hi {{ first_name }},

Spring is officially here, and if you're anything like most of my T1D clients, that means one thing, you might be moving more. This time of year means longer daylight hours, warmer mornings, and a boom of races and events back on the calendar. For most of us, activity levels tend to jump this time of year, and that shift catches a lot of people out.

When it comes to T1D, the thing nobody warns you about is, if the workout doesn't gets you, the day after will. What does that mean? Well, going from a quiet winter (hibernation for us in the southern states), to all of a sudden regular training again, changes your insulin sensitivity. This can be either during exercise, and/or sometimes for the 24, to even the next 48 hours afterward. That's exactly when overnight hypos and unexplained lows tend to creep in, and often as they occur when we aren't exercising, then we don't link them to the session.

The things worth checking as you ramp back up:

  • Basal insulin/rates - if you were dialled in for a low-activity winter, your basal insulin may now be too aggressive for your new activity level.
  • Timing of carbs around sessions - earlier sunrise means earlier training for a lot of people (not me just yet...), which can mean fuelling on the run (literally) instead of a settled pre-session routine.
  • Trend arrows, not just numbers - an in target number heading downward before a session is a different conversation to the same number holding steady.

None of this means you need to overhaul everything at once. Small, deliberate adjustments as your training builds back up beat big reactive corrections after a bad hypo.

If you've got a spring event on the calendar, such as a fun run (for me it is the Melbourne Half Marathon), a ride, triathlon, a tournament, or anything where you are stepping activity up a solid notch, then it's worth getting ahead of it now rather than troubleshooting the week of the event.

Got a spring event on the calendar? Get Race Ready.

If you've got a fun run, ride, or any event on the calendar this spring, the old "i'll just wing it on the day" is a risky plan (bold, but risky). Race Ready is a 3-session package built around exactly not winging it. It includes:

  1. Day-to-day: get your everyday nutrition and diabetes management dialled in first, because this is what everything else builds on.
  2. Training nutrition: match your fuelling to your actual training program, enhance recovery and get the most out of every session.
  3. Race ready nutrition: walk up to the start line with a real plan, not a 'wing it and see' approach, so race day doesn't come with T1D surprises.

Check out the Race Ready Roadmap

Three specific sessions, three specific outcomes!

By the time you're on the start line, you'll know exactly how to fuel, when, what with, and what to do if things do go off track.

Spots are limited this spring and bookings must be made in September 2026. If you want to book, please reply to this email or book here → Book appointment

This offer is available for both new and existing Master Nutrition clients! Payment does need to be made up front, but if you want to use Medicare or Private Health Rebates for all or any of these 3 sessions, just let me know in the booking notes.

Not sure if we are the right fit for you? That's exactly what the free 15-minute chat is for. No pressure, no sales pitch, just a quick conversation about where you're at and whether some fine-tuning would help you.
